The Well-Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach. The bible for pianists. A collection of 24 preludes and fugues, composed in all minor and major keys. Last year, I started studying them all with the aim of recording and performing them in a few years’ time. For this Online Bach College, I have chosen the preludes and fugues in F sharp. A key that was rarely used in Bach’s time. This also had to do with the tuning of the instruments. Bach became acquainted with the “new” tuning, which made it possible to compose in these difficult keys. And how!
F sharp major: a light-footed prelude and a divine fugue.
F sharp minor: a resolute, somewhat gruff prelude and an incredible fugue that has a meditative effect.
