Pianist Jan-Willem Rozenboom made a name for himself as a classical pianist with his performances of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and works by Schubert, among others, but the general public knows him as Guus Meeuwis’s regular accompanist. Together with the Brabant singer, he wrote evergreens such as Brabant and Tranen gelachen.
During this concert, after Bach and Schubert, he turns his attention to three other great piano composers: Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, and the piano virtuoso with the big hands: Sergei Rachmaninoff. Whereas Rozenboom showed his more subdued side with Bach and Schubert, this time he goes for romance and fireworks. You can hear Beethoven’s capriciousness in the ‘Moonlight Sonata’, Chopin’s lyricism in his ‘Raindrop Prelude’ and Rachmaninov’s turbulent passion in the prelude nicknamed ‘The Bells of Moscow’. During the concert, Rozenboom tells the story behind the pieces, the men who wrote them, and, above all, why these works fascinate him so much. An ideal opportunity to enjoy the most beautiful piano music in a relaxed atmosphere.
